Rye Takes One from Raton Tuesday

Raton hosted Rye, Colorado for an single baseball game Tuesday afternoon April 3rd  at Gabriele Field for a game that was rescheduled and played under cool conditions with temperatures in the 40s.

Rye struck first with a single run in the first and scored in all but the fifth inning to earn a  12 – 6 win over a young Raton team. While Raton has six seniors on the team, Coach Mike Marez noted that not all of them have been playing ball for the last four years. He added that the young team just doesn’t have the experience that a senior does who has played all four years of high school. The Raton team is also made up of several younger players including a couple of eighth graders one of which started at third, Matt Quartieri.

Raton went scoreless the first two innings but made things click and put two runs up in the third and again a crooked number 2 in the fifth. Raton’s Isiah Samora and Cole Medina both went 2 for 4 at the plate.

Rye pushed runs across in every inning except the fifth, and ended the game with a 12 to 6 vixctory.
