It was just one of those nights for the Lady Tigers when they couldn’t buy a basket as they hosted the Lady Redskins from La Veta.
In the JV game the Lady Redskins pulled out in front quickly and never looked back as Raton went scoreless in the second quarter. The Lady Redskins however tallied a 12-point quarter and extended their lead to 21-4 at half. Second half action was much the same and ended with a 40-16 win for the Lady Redskins at the buzzer.
La Veta 9 12 17 2 40
Raton 4 0 7 5 16
In girl’s varsity action the game went much like the JV game with La Veta taking an early lead and not looking back. Raton however closed to within 10 in the second before the Lady Redskins found the groove again and started stacking on the points. The Lady Redskins also used their height advantage to bring in the rebounds.
Raton finally found a lane into the basket in the fourth outscoring the Lady Redskins 24-8. But the 45-17 third quarter score was just too much to overcome and when the final buzzer sounded it was La Veta 53-41.

The boys took to the court Thursday evening and Raton controlled the ball from the jump despite an almost full head height advantage by Rio Sciacca over Dillian Lemons at center circle. It didn’t take long for Raton extend the lead in the first quarter as the Tigers moved the ball inside to Austin Jones and Jonathan Cabrieles who were able to make the scores.
The Redskins as a whole were cold from the field and attempted to get the ball inside to the tall man Rio Sciacca who ended the game with 17. The passes inside however were often disrupted and Raton took advantage of several of the turnovers. When the final buzzer sounded Raton had a comfortable win at 58-31.
