In Loving Memory of David Lee Velasquez

David Lee Velasquez passed away unexpectedly at home on March 12, 2014. He was born in Trinidad, Colorado to Gene and Palmira Velasquez on January 28, 1950. He was married to Frances Velasquez for 32 years. He was preceded in death by his parents Gene and Palmira Velasquez, his parents-in-law Albert and Bernice Gagliardi, brother-in-law Jim Reeves and nephew Samuel Valdez.

David is survived by his wonderful wife and caregiver Frances Velasquez whom he called his Angel, his children Regina (Jerry) DeVaul of Denver, Renee (Dale) Chavez of Castle Rock and David (Lisa) Velasquez of Denver, his grandchildren Jory and Aliyah Chavez, Alex Velasquez and special nieces Celina and Shania Valdez,  also sister-in-law Phyllis Gagliardi. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters Gene (Louise) Velasquez of Pueblo West, Irene Reeves, Linda Velasquez, Betty (John) Lucero, Chuck (Gloria) Velasquez, Louise (Jim) Grosso, Shirley (Leroy) Castillo, Paul (Charlene) Velasquez and Pam (Paul) Cordova all of Trinidad. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Dave was enlisted in the Army to serve his country in 1967 with an Honorable Discharge. He worked in the Allen mine, the Walsenburg Nursing Home and owned and operated Dave’s Auto Service. He had degrees in auto mechanics, OSHA as well as CNA. He also helped to care for his mother.

David loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. He loved fishing, hunting, movies, oldies music and joking with everyone. Just like when he would call Frances, Phyllis and himself “The Three Amigos”. He was a giving and caring person who was always available. He will be sadly missed by family and friends because he touched the hearts of everyone.

Visitation will be Thursday March 20, 2014 from 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. at the Comi Chapel.

Rosary will be Thursday March 20, 2014 at 7 p.m.  at Holy Trinity Church.

Funeral Mass will be Friday, March 21, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Holy Trinity Church.

Interment will follow at the Trinidad Catholic Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers are Jerry Devaul, Phyllis Gagliardi, George Velasquez, John Velasquez and Dennis Montano.

Active pallbearers are Gene Velasquez, John Lucero, Chuck Velasquez, Ray Velasquez, Paul Cordova and Leroy Castillo. Followers are Jacob Valdez and Gene Velasquez III.
