It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved River Pena in Albuquerque, New Mexico. River was 21 years old, born 2/17/05 to Miranda Chavez and Juan Carlos Pena Flores and passed away 10/3/26. River is preceded in death by Grandpa Fidel Chavez, Joe “Noonie” Romero and Grandmother Maria Louisa Flores. River is survived by Mother Miranda Chavez, Father Juan Carlos Pena Flores, brother Juan Carlos Pena Jr., Christian Pena Chavez, Luciano Pena Chavez, Decclyn Chavez. Sisters: Ahnayelii Pena Chavez and Gabriella Pena Chavez.
River, loved to be with family and nature; if you knew River, you knew he came with the best playlist from Brentton Woods to Suicide Boys and everything in between. If you saw River, you knew Josiah Michael and Gabriel were not far behind. River loved Spider-Man and Amine. River Pena grew up in Raton, New Mexico, and attended Raton public schools. He was known for his kind heart, quick wit, gentle spirit, and infectious laugh, but the best personality.
A viewing for friends and family will be held in the Chapel of the Alderette-Pomeroy Funeral Home on October 14, 2026, from 2 PM to 4 PM. A Celebration of Life for River Pena will be held on October 15, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Lighthouse Church in Raton, New Mexico. Burial will follow at Fairmont Cemetery. Following the burial, there will be a dinner at the Parish Hall.
