Description
The New Mexico State 4‑H Shooting Sports Championships is the culminating state‑level event for 4‑H Shooting Sports members across New Mexico. Hosted by the Whittington Center, this annual competition celebrates youth development, firearm safety, responsible marksmanship, and sportsmanship. Over four days, participants ages [typically 9–18 enrolled in 4‑H Shooting Sports] (standard 4‑H structure) compete across multiple shooting disciplines including rifle, pistol, shotgun, archery (both recurve and compound), hunting skills, and muzzleloader contests.
The event draws 4‑H’ers from counties statewide, offering them a competitive yet educational environment where they can demonstrate skill, follow competition rules, and earn awards. In addition to the competitions, the schedule traditionally features evening social gatherings such as a dance and concludes with an awards ceremony to recognize individual and team achievements. Competitors and families are encouraged to review event rules, range assignments, and safety guidelines ahead of arrival. On‑site lodging and accommodations are available through the Whittington Center.
