BACKGROUND: Cherry Lynne was born April 19, 1941 in Merkel, Texas to Royce Cherry Eiland and Clara Frances (Largent) Eiland. She graduated from Des Moines High School in 1959. She married her high school sweetheart, Donald Alton Reif on July 6, 1961. Together they had two children, Mark Reif and Lynne (Reif) Cleavinger. After Donald graduated from vet school at Colorado State University they moved to Oklahoma for one year and then moved to Clayton, New Mexico in 1967. Cherry Lynne loved Jesus and everyone she met was able to see Jesus living through her. Her life was one that was best characterized by love because His love and grace were put on display throughout her life. This was evident by the number of people called her friend, sister, G-ma, and the ones who looked to her and saw her as a second mom. Cherry Lynne was hard working. She was a homemaker and a mother and was steadfast in these commitments. She was an incredible cook and hostess of large gatherings. She was famous for her homemade ice cream and desserts. Several commented that Christmas at her house was like a cruise ship buffet. She gardened, took care of the house, chaperoned events for her children, clipped show steers and assisted with livestock show projects for her children and others who needed assistance. She volunteered for years doing hair for people at the nursing home. She was faithful in her service to the church where she would teach classes, sponsor youth group trips, bake endless pies or take food to people in times of stress. She also served on the Gideon’s Auxiliary for many years. Cherry Lynne was fiercely competitive as anyone who ever played cards or other games against her would know. She was an avid sports fan and loved watching college basketball. Cherry Lynne was preceded in death by her grandparents, Gradon Eiland and Ethel (Cherry) Eiland, Willie Joe and Clara Mae (Saffle) Largent, her parents Royce and Fran Eiland, mother and father in law, DM and Lucile (Thomas) Reif, and brother John Eiland.
