Therman Lester “T.L.” Savell, 89, of Raton, New Mexico, passed away February 9, 2026.
T.L. was born March 30, 1936, in Clayton, New Mexico, to Ruby and Lester Savell. He lived a long life filled with hard work, love for his family, and a deep appreciation for the outdoors.
T.L. proudly served his country in the United States Army. Following his military service, he dedicated 35 years of hard work and commitment to Conoco. During his younger years while attending high school, he worked with horses at the racetrack, beginning a lifelong passion for horses and showing them.
He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. Some of his most cherished memories were made fishing with his wife, Anna Joyce, and his grandson, Cody. He often joked that Anna Joyce usually caught the bigger fish. T.L. especially treasured time spent with his grandsons, always encouraging them with his favorite saying, “Give them heck.”
T.L. is survived by his loving wife, Anna Joyce Savell; his stepson, J.T. McGillem and wife Melissa; and his grandsons, Cody and Colton McGillem.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruby and Lester Savell, and his sisters, Loretta Simpier and Wanda Bittich.
