In Loving Memory of Joseph T. Romero Sr.

Joseph T. Romero Sr., age 77, of Raton, NM, passed away unexpectedly on December 15, 2025, surrounded by family.

Joseph was born on January 2, 1948, in Maxwell, NM. He spent many years working as a coal miner for P&M before retiring, a career that reflected his strong work ethic, resilience, and dedication to providing for his family. He took great pride in his work and the life he built through it.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Joseph was the proud husband & father of seven children. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jean Romero.

Children: Andy Martinez, Anna Martinez (Hector Casarez), Johnny Martinez, Barbara Romero (Jeremy Romero), Josephine Romero (Cezar Holguin), Joseph Romero Jr, Edward Romero (Amanda Romero), and Paul Martinez (Agatha Martinez). He was a loving grandfather to many grandchildren and a cherished great-grandfather to several great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him joy.

Joseph will be remembered for his strength, kindness, and unwavering commitment to his family. He enjoyed Fishing, working in his yard, storytelling, and spending time with family. He leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and family unity.

He was preceded in death by Father Salo Romero, Mother Josie Romero, Brothers Eloy Romero, Arturro Romero, and Sister Lydia Duran.

Survived by sisters: Rosali (Leroy)Scheller, Viola Iacobelli, Percilla Johnson, and Ida Romero.

Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary will be held at St Patrick-St. Joseph Catholic Church on January 9, 2026, at 11:00 am., followed by the Mass of Christian Burial a 11:30 am with Father Bill Woytvich as the Celebrant. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary.
