In Loving Memory of Dona Carol Seay

Dona Carol Seay

Trinidad lost a treasure December 22, 2025 when Dona Caol Seay, aka “Dona with 1 N” lost her courageous, but mercifully brief battle with an extremely aggressive form of cancer.

Born November 5, 1950 in Wheeler, Texas to the Reverend Bernard F. Seay, a Methodist preacher, and Laverne Savage Seay, a school teacher, Dona graduated from the Littlefield High School in 1969.  She joined the US Army in 1970 and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant E6.  Dona received a National Defense Service Medal, two Good Conduct Medals, and an Army Commendation medal while serving her country.  She was honorably discharged in November 1979 and attended Texas Tech University.  She began working for the US Postal Service in Denver shortly thereafter and retired in 1996.

Dona moved to Trinidad in 2001 and became an active volunteer, serving as secretary and board member at Ft. Wooten.  She served as a member of the Arts Council from 2005 to 2010.  She was a very active and founding member of the Art Cartopia Museum and Artocade parade events.  Dona ran the gift shop at the museum and was a volunteer “Splainer” (art car lingo for Docent!) until April of 2022.  She was involved with the LAMA Foundation in northern New Mexico, a non-profit, non-denominational spiritual retreat center.  She was a retreatant, a free associate and a board trustee for the group.

Dona is survived by her niece, Sarah Monday and husband Glenn; her three semi-feral cats, Sunny, Stormy, and Frosty, and more admirers and friends than she ever imagined.  Dona’s integrity, honesty and “can do” attitude will be greatly missed by all who knew her.  Ceremonies and celebrations of her life will be held at LAMA, the National Cemetery in Amarillo, and Trinidad at a later date.

Flowers are lovely, but she requested monetary donations to PALS, 131 E. Main St. Trinidad, CO 81082 or to the LAMA Foundation, PO Box 240 San Cristobal, NM 87564.
