Eloy Thomas Gonzales, age 90, died on Monday November 24, 2025, in Clayton, New Mexico.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM on Friday, December 19th at Holy Family Parish (515 St George St.) in Roy, New Mexico. The funeral Mass will be for both Eloy and his sister Mary Evelyn DiNicola. Mass will be followed by burial of Eloy in the Roy Cemetery and a potluck dinner at the Parish Hall. Arrangements are under the direction of Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton, New Mexico.

Eloy Tomas was born December 22, 1934 – the fourth surviving child of Jose Rogerio and Josephine (Josefita) Gonzales. During his first years, Eloy suffered from a heart condition and thus was spared from some of the rigors of homestead work necessities faced by his two older brothers and his dad. In 1951, Eloy graduated from Roy High School and began working for George Ray on the Ray Ranch, in Harding County. As a young man, Eloy enjoyed assisting at brandings in the local area. He later became a juvenile detention officer at the New Mexico Boys School in Springer. He then went on to drive trucks for the SEC Corporation and Amerigas hauling dry ice and liquid carbon dioxide throughout the western states. He resided most of his life in or near Mills and Roy, New Mexico. He spent his last years sojourning various assisted living facilities from Las Vegas to Springer to Raton to Clayton. Eloy had a sense of humor and enjoyed teasing people. He had a nickname – not necessarily nice – for all his close acquaintances. He liked big luxury cars, western style clothing, and likely had the best collection of Comfy down jackets and Tony Llama boots in the region. He liked to date but never married. He loved to hang out with his nephews and was generous about lending out his car, mower, fishing tackle, coolers, etc. Eloy was tough, feisty, and able to take care of himself. He clung tight to his opinions. Was a dedicated Catholic. Ever mischievous, he had shining eyes and a wry smile. He will be missed.  Eloy Tomas Gonzales died November 24, 2025, at Clayton Nursing and Rehabilitation facility in Clayton, New Mexico. He was preceded in death by his father J. R., his mother Josephine, his brother Francis, and his sister Mary Evelyn.

He is survived by his brother Gilbert, his sister Bertha, his sister Arlene and many nephews and nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces, great grandnephews and great grandnieces, and friends.
