Betty Jane Macaron, age 99, passed away on December 7th, 2025. She was born March 24th, 1926, in El Paso, TX, to Charles and Emily Kazan Klink. Betty graduated from Austin High School, where she excelled in the music department. She played the piano, clarinet, and accordion. Betty was an honor student, and she played a piano solo accompanied by the Austin High School Band during her graduation. After her high school graduation, she attended Texas College of Mines, now known as the University of Texas at El Paso, majoring in music. During her college years, Betty volunteered her time playing the piano at the USO shows in El Paso. The servicemen appreciated the time she gave and made her the USO honorary sweetheart. Betty also volunteered her time to help raise money for the Red Cross.
In 1945, Betty met the love of her life and married Fred Macron on June 16th, 1946. They ended up in Springer, where Fred worked in his family’s store. It wasn’t long before Betty became part of this community. She continued playing the piano and the organ at the First United Methodist Church. She was also active in the Progress Club. She was the president of Colfax General Hospital Auxiliary and the president of Colfax General Long-term Care Auxiliary. Betty was also active in the Springer Chapter #42 Order of the Eastern Star and served as Worthy Matron. Betty enjoyed teaching piano to anyone who wanted to learn.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, their daughter, Janice Macaron, her mother, father, and four sisters- Mary Lee Howard. Nimrie Robertson, Pauline Abraham and Emma Haddad, and one brother, Samuel Klink.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Carol Barchie and husband Steve, of Canton, N C. and Marilyn Jones and her husband Gary of Springer, NM. Eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren, sisters in law Vona Klink and Edna Macaron. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive her.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Colfax General Long-Term Care in Springer or to the First United Methodist Church in Springer.
Memorial Service for Betty Jane Macaron with be on December 18, 2025, at 11:00 am at the Methodist Church in Springer, followed by a graveside service at Springer Cemetery.
