John was born on March 4, 1939, to Reuben and Lois Spruill in Albuquerque, NM and He stepped into the gates of Heaven on November 10, 2025, in Maxwell, NM.
John grew up on a family-owned cattle ranch in Estancia, NM. He was active in FFA, the band, and the republican party of Torrance County, NM, winning a seat as County Commissioner from 1968-1972. He also aided in establishing “OLD TIMERS DAY” in Estancia. John was a lifetime member of the NRA. A former member of the Torrance County Sheriff’s Posse, riding proudly in area parades and events.
John married the love of his life, Donna Lee Stovall, on July 21, 1967, and together they raised 4 daughters.
John was Ordained into the Ministry on October 13, 1974, at First Baptist Church, Estancia, NM, and attended SWBT in Fort Worth, Texas. He pastored numerous churches in Texas and New Mexico and retired from full-time pastoring in August 2023 in Maxwell, NM.
John loved hunting, nature, Hereford cattle, Rambouillet Sheep, a straight barbed wire fence, and an occasional LONE STAR BEER. In his later years, he enjoyed feeding his “livestock”, beautiful sunrises and sunsets, and chatting via text messages with his dear beloved family and friends.
John is survived by his daughters: Joanna (Frank), Molly (Steve), Ramona (Lynn), and Naomi (Gary). His Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren: Raelene (James) {Weston, Bentley, and Oaklee}, John Reuben, Reuben, Allison {Bridger and Brighton}, Kaylee (Colton) {Noah}, Traci (Ramon) {Elena, Adriel}, Steven (Alison) {Phinehas}, Christina, Hadrian, Donna, and Tristan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Reuben and Lois Spruill, and his great-grandson, Bowen.
