Madeline M. Martinez, beloved mother, grandmother and sister, passed away on November 18, 2025, at the age of 88. Madeline was born on April 12, 1937, in Ft. Sumner, NM, to the late Salomon and Benina Cordova. She was raised in Raton, NM, in a loving family.
In 1954, Madeline married the love of her life, Julian Martinez, who preceded her in death.Together, they raised seven children: Linda Alvarado and husband Tony, deceased, Julie Munniks and husband Ron, Phil Martinez and wife Sylvia, Gerald Martinez and wife Jeannie, Janet Martinez and husband Eric, and Michael Martinez and wife Jennifer. Unfortunately, Madeline was also preceded in death by her son, Steve Martinez.
Madeline leaves behind a legacy of love and joy through her numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.
Madeline was also preceded in death by her sister, Lorraine Bowman, brothers Andrew Cordova, Jacob Benavidez, Gerald Benavidez and Max
Benavidez. She is survived by her sisters, Bernice Vallez, Patricia Benavidez, Rosabel Ludwin and JoAnn Sanchez, brothers Gene Sanchez, John Sanchez and Joseph Sanchez, as well as many nephews, nieces and cousins. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Madeline dedicated most of her career to motel management before retiring. She found joy in activities such as bingo at the senior center, building puzzles, playing card games, reading, listening to music and spending time with friends and family, always opening her home to welcome everyone with open arms. In her younger years, she enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting.
Madeline’s kind and generous spirit will be remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories that will be forever treasured.
Rosary will be held at St. Patrick’s – St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at 11 am. Recited by the Legion of Mary. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 am, followed by the internment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
