In Loving Memory of Ellen “Jeanette” (Madole) Porterfield

Ellen “Jeanette” (Madole) Porterfield passed away on November 8, 2025 in Springer New Mexico. She was born on August 10, 1939 to Hugh Wyman and Hazel (Green) Madole in Roy, NM. She married her high school sweetheart Jerry Porterfield on July 23, 1956 in Roy, NM. In July they celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary.
Jeanette worked hard all her life. In the late 60’s she was co-owner of Roy Sundries. The Porterfield’s moved to Dumas, Texas in 1976. She worked at a dress shop, JC Penney’s and eventually at Swift Meat Packing Plant on the fab floor pulling huge cuts of beef.
Jeanette loved doing all kinds of crafts. She enjoyed quilting, knitting, embroidery, needle point, jewelry making and crocheting. Her hands were always busy, until they didn’t work anymore. Many of us have beautiful items we will always treasure that she made for us. Jeanette enjoyed doing puzzles, square dancing, card games, golf and tennis. She loved her bridge trips with her friends from Dumas. It made her heart so happy to see her grandkids and great grandkids. She would play whatever they wanted her to play. She was the best Granny!
She was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Roy where she served as a mayordomo for many years, Wheatland Quilt Club, Women’s Club, Roy Booster Club and the American Legion Auxiliary. Jeanette was always volunteering to help where ever she was needed. She never said no, and never complained.
