Raton Lady Tigers Roll Over Mora As NM State Softball Tournament Gets Underway

It was a picture perfect spring day on Thursday, May 7 as the Raton Lady Tigers hosted the first round of the 2A NM State Softball Tournament and took advantage of Mora pitching and cruised to a 16 – 0 three inning win over the Rangers.

Even though the Lady Tigers were hosting on their field, Mora won the coin toss and would be home team on the scoreboard.  The toss would be the last thing that went Mora’s way, though as Raton sent 15 batters to the plate in the first inning and had scored 10 runs before the first out was recorded.

Raton would add two more in the second and four more in the third, before the 15 run rule gave the Lady Tigers their 23rd win of the season.  Raton’s Haydyn Middlebrook earned the win for her 14th win on the mound.

Mora earned a berth into the State Tournament earlier in the afternoon with a 12 – 8 win over Pecos. Both teams will be a part of the eight-team double elimination bracket as the second round will be played at Los Altos in Albuquerque beginning on May 13th.  #2 seed Raton will play #6 seed Jal at 9:30 am as the Panthers upset #3 seed Hozho Academy.
