Another fast start for Roy/Mosquero Lady Blue in the 2025 Class A State Basketball Tournament had the Lady Blue off to an 11-0 run to begin the semifinal game against the Quemado Eagles on Thursday, March 13 at the Rio Rancho Events Center. By the time the final buzzer sounded the Lady Blue had claimed a shot at the Blue Championship Trophy with a 59 – 28 victory.
The win kept the Blair Clavel coached unbeaten streak intact at 29 straight and gave them a chance to not only claim the championship banner for the third time in the past five years, but a chance to unseat the defending champion Ft. Sumner/House Vixens, the team that knocked them out in the semis last year.
Blue was led in scoring by Natalie Smith’s 20 followed by Silviana Baca with 12; Nora Crisp 10; Tayla Profitt 8; Constanza Covarrubius 4; Dylan Clavel 3; Reagan Doherty 2.
Helping Roy/Mosquero’s cause was a stone cold Eagles shooting perfomance. As a team they were 3 for 30 from the field in the second half and were successful on less than 15% of attempts for the whole game.
The NM Class A Girls State Basketball Championship will take place on Saturday, March 14 at 10 AM at the Pit in Albuquerque. KRTN will broadcast the game on FM 93.9 and AM 1490 and will stream the audio on Facebook.
