It was a roller coaster ride for Raton baseball and softball on Tuesday, April 9 as they both hosted the St Mikes Horsemen with the boys falling to the heavy bats in five, while down at Jim Wade Field the Lady Tigers earned a 10 run rule, six-inning win 16-6.

For the Tiger girls, the game was not as easy as the score indicated.

Sophomore Haydyn Middlebrook started the game in the circle for Raton and was replaced by Senior Giana Marez who finished the game and garnered the win. St Mikes Erianna Sisneros started the game and was replaced by Kiana Trujillo. Sisneros was credited with the loss.

Raton took off in the first inning scoring five, then St Mikes rallied to tie the game at five  after four innings. After St. Mikes squeezed one across in the fifth, Raton took the lead again in the bottom of the inning with two scored.  In the sixth, it would be game over as the bats got hot and St. Mikes committed critical errors. Raton loaded the bases twice in the sixth and either drove in or walked in nine runs to end the game and give the Lady Tigers their first District 2AAA win. Raton scored 16 runs on 6 hits and was aided by 5 Santa Fe errors, while the Raton Girls committed only one miscue.

At Gabrielle Field Raton went through four pitchers.  Raton’s Isaac Garcia started the game on the mound and faced 10 batters before GB Oliver relieved facing 9 batters. Jacob Mattorano came in and faced 17 Horsemen followed by Chance Middlebrook who finished the game against the last two Horsemen batters. Lucas Stoll was credited with the win and faced 16 Raton batters. Michael Giesler took over the mound in the fifth and walked three Raton batters before ending the game.

Raton Boy and Girls will travel to Santa Fe Indian on Thursday, April 11 and then both will host West Vegas on Saturday, April 13 for district doubleheaders.
