In Loving Memory of Mary “Maxine” Duran

Mary “Maxine” Duran age 85 was called to Heaven on TuesdayFebruary 12022, near her home in Segundo, CO as a result of a vehicle accident that also took her daughter, Cheryl LynnMaxine was born on July 311936, in her Segundo homeOur Grandma would say, the bells at St. Ignatius Church were ringing, celebrating St. Ignatius’ feast day, as our mom was being born. Maxine (Derrera) was born to Ferdinand Derrera, Sr.and Teresa (Gonzales) Derrera of Segundo, CO. Maxine was a loving mother, grammie, great-grammie, sister, and auntShe was presided in death by her daughter, Bernadette, and husband, Jose “Butter” Duran.

Maxine graduated from Primero High School and met the love of her life, Jose “Butter” Duran, and they were married on November 18, 1956Together they had five children (4 girls and a boy). Maxine is survived by her children; Vicki (Monte) Smith of Arvada; Marie Abu-Okal of Thornton; and Dwayne (Laurie) Duran of Denver. Grammie had numerous grandchildren; Aaron Smith; Jenifer Smith; Dewey (Devyna) Duran; Mona (Guillermo) Laing; Maye Lynna (Rueben) Ramirez; Andrew (Monika) Duran; and Ali (Aubrey) Abu-Okal. Also left to cherish her memories are her great-grandchildren; Jayden Healey; Max Opperman; Xavier and Rueben Ramirez; Isaiah Lovato; Nyellie and Harley Duran; Makilah and Amelia Duran; Mahmoud, Zakaria “Zak” and Ameera Abu-Okal; Giuliana “Gigi” Laing and future great-grandson, Andrew Joseph Duran, Jr. to be born in June.

She is survived by her remaining siblings Alicean Ten Eyck, Martha Sanchez, and Ruben DeHerrera. On February 8our mother greeted her brother Lawrence DeHerrera with open arms in heaven. Maxine is also survived by her in-laws Onie DuranDaniel and Virginia Duran; Julia and Erie Trujillo; and Margaret Apodaca

Maxine enriched our lives by bringing love, laughter, and joy to her family and friends. Maxine will forever be missed, we will cherish our time and memories of her. Especially knowing that she was always there if we needed anything. During her lifetime she knitted, crocheted, did ceramics, and was an all-around homemaker. She did have the occasional job like working in the high school cafeteria and at Pinon Valley Ranch as a cook. 

Maxine so deeply missed our sister, Bernadette, and our Dad and was prepared to see Our Lord and Savior and all the family that proceeded her and who was there to greet her with open arms.

Celebration of Life Memorial, March 10 @ 1 pmFirst Christian Church, Trinidad, CO.
