Gregory Adair Moore, an 80-year-old resident of Roy, New Mexico, died August 5th, 2026, at home. Greg was born on February 13th, 1946, at St. Joseph Hospital in Houston, Texas, to Warren Neal and Christine Sanders Moore. He is preceded in death by both his parents. He is survived by his brother Warren Neal Moore Jr. of Caldwell, Texas, and his sister Sherry Moore Raska of Lufkin, Texas, and his four children James (Tracy) Moore of Lubbock, Texas, Cooper (Amanda) Moore of Hoehne, Colorado, Clayton (Ana) Moore of Roy, New Mexico, and Emily (Paul) Brink of Cottage Grove, Oregon, and 10 grandchildren.
Greg grew up on the Texas Gulf Coast in Alvin where the Moore’s had a dairy and farm that grew rice and raised cattle. He graduated from Alvin High School in 1964 where he excelled as an athlete in football, baseball and track. He was a skilled bareback bronc rider and qualified his Senior year in the Texas High School Rodeo State Championships and went on to further place in the High School Rodeo National Finals. Greg attended Texas A&M University in College Station, was a member of the Corps of Cadets in company D-1 “Spider D” and graduated in 1968 with a bachelor’s degree in animal science.
In the early 1970s the Moore family made their way to the picturesque and biodiverse tall grass prairies of Northeastern New Mexico. In 1976 Greg purchased the Wagon Mound ranch from his father and moved there permanently in 1980, he later increased his land holdings with the Chico ranch and the Taylor Springs ranch near Springer.
Greg Moore was a long-time and dedicated member of the New Mexico Cattle Growers’ Association, serving numerous terms on the Board of Directors. He also led the NMCGA Feeder Committee for many years, where he was a strong advocate for New Mexico’s cattle producers and the beef industry. Greg represented NMCGA at the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) on numerous occasions and was active in several committees, including Live Cattle Marketing, International Trade, and Cattle Health & Well-Being. He served a three-year term as NCBA Region VI Vice President of Policy, representing the interests of cattle producers throughout the western states and Southwest. During his time with NCBA, he served on the organization’s Executive Committee and was deeply involved in policy issues affecting cattle producers across the region.
While he enjoyed his role as a cowman, the real love of his life was the Great Plains and he had a passion for its restoration. Greg lived by the motto “leave it better than you found it,” and in 2015 Greg was awarded the Jane Wing Petchesky Conservation Award by the New Mexico Land Conservancy. He was interested in the history and the lore of the region and in 2021 was a featured guest on the television series Red Steagall Is Somewhere West of Wall Street.
In the last years of Greg’s life, he became an active member of the local churches in Roy, attending weekly Bible studies and services, and spent his free time helping them in a variety of ways as they helped him deepen his relationship to Jesus Christ.
