Another Short Meeting to End the Year for Raton City Commission

It was another fairly short meeting Tuesday evening December 8, 2020 for the Raton City Commission to finish out the calendar year of business.

Commissioners began the meeting by thanking and approving Resolution 2020-67 thanking and showing their appreciation to the Glenn A Ducat and Beverly Krivokapich Living Trust for their donation of land to the City of Raton. The property is located north of Tiger Drive and west of State Street behind KRTN. (Link to Appreciation to Beverly Krivokapich and Glen A Ducat)

They also approved resolution 2020-68 again showing their appreciation and recognition of Brenda Ferri the Raton Mainstreet Executive Director who was nominated by New Mexico Mainstreet for her efforts improving downtown Raton as well as the other projects Raton Mainstreet are involved in. Commissioners approved the changes to Ordinance 1010 which deals with the personnel board and collective bargaining. The changes have been mandated by the state and must be completed by the end of December in order to keep the personnel board active.

Commissioners approved the 2021 legislative capital outlay funding priorities which include:

$300,000 for Police Equipment including Dispatch upgrades, body cameras and storage equipment for camera video

$250,000 for drainage system improvements and reconstruction

$400,000 to revamp Sugarite Avenue for Pedestrian and Bicycle Trail

$500,000 Frontage Road and East Tenth Street imrpovements

$200,000 for Document Storage

This year the criteria for evaluating the need for local projects has changed and includes the project being on the ICIP as well as its importance for public health and safety. The priorities will be uploaded to a website for the legislature to view instead of hand delivering it to our state representatives and senators.

Commissioners approved FY2021 Budget Adjustment #4 which includes funding for the animal shelter expenses. Other monies were moved around for equipment and building repairs.  (Link to FY2021 Budget Adjustment #4)

City Manager Scott Berry noted there will be an exit conference for the city audit. There will be water outages along Park Ave from Second Street up to Fifth Street as crews begin the work to connect customers to the new water line.

As the projects at the transfer station and the aquatic center near completion city staff will be working on closing out those projects as are the city office staff closing out the Cares Act agreements.

The Raton City Commission will meet again on January 12, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. to begin the new calendar year.
