It began early Tuesday morning when with a dispute over child custody. Not long after that Ramiro Tirado took his 2-yearold daughter and headed to points unknown.

An amber alert was issued for the white Cadillac Escalade that woke many people from a sound sleep after 3:00 a.m. Tuesday morning. By luck Joel Leach who was traveling home to Boulder Colorado noticed the vehicle just south of Raton. He called authorities after confirming the vehicle’s license plate, however Tirado made it out of town before Raton police could get to the location according to Police Chief John Garcia.

Raton dispatch contacted Colorado authorities. Soon after that Colorado State Patrol spotted the vehicle and gave chase just north of Trinidad. The chase continued north on I-25 reaching speeds of 100 mph. As CSP officers converged on the vehicle they deployed stop sticks at mile marker 41. The spikes worked and flattened the left front tire of the escalade. Tirado continued traveling north at high speeds until the flat tire caused the driver to loose control at about mile marker 43. The vehicle crossed the median and northbound lanes and hit the frontage road where it rolled and landed on its wheels.

Tirado and his daughter were ejected from the vehicle as it came to rest on its wheels just beyond the fence on the west side of the interstate. Both victims were transported by ambulance, the daughter to Spanish Peaks. Tirado was transported to Parkview in Pueblo and his daughter was later transported to a Denver hospital.

Colorado authorities are working with New Mexico authorities on the investigation of the abduction.
