The Pecos teams travelled up I-25 for a district round ball match up in Tiger Gym Thursday February 12, 2026 where they took home the win for all four games.

The JV Girls game was the closest of the day as Raton kept the game close with a tie game at 13 in the second quarter of play, going into the locker room down 16-15. Pecos came back after the break and managed to outscore Raton 13-7 in the third and maintain the lead for a final 33-26 Pecos win.

The JV boys took the hard wood next and kept things from getting to far out of hand in the first but in the second Pecos poured on the coals and out scored Raton 24-10. In third quarter action Raton came back popped the net for four more points than Pecos. However in the fourth the Panthers often swarmed the ball and outscored Raton by 20 for the 82-44 win.

The Lady Tigers held Pecos to only nine points in the first quarter but the swarm got the girls in the second as there were 14 tie balls in the first half of play. A strong Pecos defense held Raton to single digit quarters the remainder of the game. At the buzzer it was a 44-12 win for the Lady Panthers who sit 3-3 in district six play after the win. Raton will take on the first ranked Clayton Yellowjackettes on Saturday for another district game in Tiger Gym.

The Raton boys came home with a 55-50 win over Estancia and brought hopes of a close game with Pecos but something went south when the boys hit the court Thursday evening and Pecos turned up the heat holding Raton to only nine points in the first quarter while they dropped in 33. In all four games Pecos exhibited an aggression for the ball and would often double team and sometimes triple team the ball handler creating turnovers or tie balls which frustrated the Tigers.

Second half action saw Raton far enough behind that the mercy rule kicked in and it was a running clock for the rest of the game and ended with a Pecos win 83-35 to put them in first place with a 6-0 district record.
