The Robertson Cardinals travelled up I-25 for a non district matchup with the old rival Raton Tigers on Saturday afternoon January 10, 2026.
The game was one that got picked up for the boys so there wasn’t a girl’s game scheduled. The Jv took the court and Raton scored first but it was not long before the Cardinals not only scored but grabbed a 17-8 lead. The JV Cardinals kept adding to their score and took a 33-22 lead into the locker room as Raton struggled to hit the basket. Third quarter action saw Raton battled back to within eight but the Robertson defense came alive and the offense hit the hoop for a 63-41 win.
In the boy’s varsity game Raton was short two key players, out with medical issues and Robertson took advantage of that especially with 6’6″ Senior Nathan Gonzales who found the shot ball several times to prevent Raton scores. Raton also struggled to make the shots count. By halftime the Tigers were behind by a 49-23 score. The second half of play soon saw the Cardinals pull away to start a running clock and finish with an 81-38 final.
Raton will play again in Des Moines on Monday as the Friday game were cancelled and then will host the Trinidad Miners on Saturday for Tigerfest.
