The Raton Tigers took to the field Friday night hosting the Legacy Academy Silverbacks for the first district game of the season here in Raton with several of their key players back from injuries.
As the game got underway it became clear that this was going to be a defensive game as both teams went back and forth moving the ball only a few yards and keeping the ball mostly in the middle of the field, neither team made it into the red zone in the first quarter.
Legacy Academy took the ball into the second quarter and into the red zone on a fourth and 14 Academy quarterback Lorenzo Sedillo-Urban put up a pass to Adrian Lopez for a 14-yard pass and catch TD at 8:39 on the second quarter clock. The PAT was good making it a 7-0 ball game. Raton goes four and out giving Legacy Academy the ball their 38. From there they take the ball to the one yard line where Jay Lee romps over the goal line for another six with 3:38 left in the half. The PAT was good making a 14-0 game.
Raton takes the kickoff and two plays later Cael Walton breaks tackles and it’s a 78-yard foot race to pay dirt to give Raton its first score of the evening. The Logan Elliott PAT was good leaving it 14-7 with 2:47 left on the first half clock.
The second half of the game started out slow as well with Legacy Academy playing the slow game to run time off the clock. Eight plays later QB Lorenzo Sedillo-Urban puts it up to Christian Perez for a 25-yard TD pass play. The PAT was good for a 21-7 score at 7:17 on the third period clock. Raton goes 15 plays and into the red zone but is unable to move the ball across the goal line and give it up to Legacy Academy.
Academy goes 15 plays burning the clock and moving the ball but is unable to get the ball passed the 50 and turn it over to Raton at the 50. Three plays later Raton moves quickly down the field for a TD pass play from Braylon Walton to Luciano Castillo. The Logan Elliott PAT is good leaving it a 21-14 score with only 1:09 left in the game. Legacy Academy takes the knee and finally runs the clock out to end the game.
Unfortunately, Raton’s senior quarterback Azden Romero suffered a shoulder injury in the game and at last report probably won’t be back this season. Quarterback duties now fall to freshman quarterback Braylon Walton. Raton will travel to Tucumcari next week for a district game against the Rattlers Friday night October 10, 2025.
