John Fred Bacca

Born in Raton, NM on April 11, 1948, to John and Mabel Bacca. The oldest of 5 siblings, John, graduated from Raton High School in 1966. He volunteered for the US Army in 1967 and did two tours of Vietnam. He made the Army his career for 20 years, stationed many places in the world with Alaska being his favorite as he enjoyed nature, camping, hunting, and fishing. He moved back to NM and attended Trinidad Junior College receiving a diploma in Occupational Safety.

He worked for the State of New Mexico and Albuquerque Public Schools, utilizing his occupational safety knowledge. Working for the state he met Stella, and they married in 1998. They moved to Las Cruces NM in 2006 where he passed on September 2, 2025.

John was an active member of Our Lady of Health Catholic Church, where he made many friends connected through his strong faith.

John is survived by his wife Stella, sister Carol, brother Greg, and brother-in-law Pat.  John has one son Daniel in Memphis TN, two granddaughters, and one great granddaughter. John had many aunts and uncles with several cousins who looked up to him as a brother, friend, and all-around happy person. All will deeply miss him. We love you, John.

Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary will be at 11:00 am at St. Patrick’s – St. Joesph’s Catholic Church on Friday, September 26, 2025, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 am at St. Patrick’s-St. Josephs Catholic Church.  Internment will follow at the Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Arrangements for John Fred Bacca are entrusted to the Alderette-Pomeroy Funeral Home.
