In Loving Memory of Barbara Jean “Bobbi” Aldaz

Barbara Jean “Bobbi” Aldaz, 84, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2026, in Carlsbad, New Mexico.
Our Mom was born on July 18, 1941, in the coal mining camps of Brilliant, New Mexico, to Steve and Elizabeth
“Wee Wee” Segotta. She was raised in Northern New Mexico town of Raton where family was the center of
everything. She graduated from Raton High School in 1959, and Raton remained home in every sense of the
word.
Our Mom met the love of her life, Joe Aldaz, at New Mexico Highlands in Las Vegas, New Mexico. They were
married on April 20, 1961, and built a life grounded in commitment, discipline, and family. They began their
journey in Vaughn, New Mexico, where our Dad started his 37-year career as an educator and coach, and our
Mom worked at the local bank. In 1969, they returned to Raton, where they raised our family and built the
foundation we still carry today.
Our Mom dedicated her career to the Raton School District, serving first as Office Receptionist at Longfellow
Elementary, then as the Executive Assistant to the Superintendent. She was trusted, respected, and relied
upon. She didn’t look for recognition—she earned it through consistency, professionalism, and doing things the
right way every day.
In 2003, our Mom and Dad moved to Carlsbad, New Mexico. After our Dad passed in 2016, she continued
forward with the same quiet strength and resilience that defined her life.
If you knew our Mom, you knew her Christmas Eve celebration. It wasn’t just a tradition—it was how she brought
people together. Her home was full, the food was ready, and everyone had a place. Her posole, her baked
goods, her potica, frietas, pizelles, and bizcochitos—and your choice of smokin’ hot Hatch green or red chile—
brought everyone together. The Koomas of Raton, the Segotta family, and close friends—year after year. No
invitation required.
She also learned the art of cooking New Mexican food from our grandmother, Lupe Zamora Aldaz—which, for
a Slavic-Irish woman, was something special. And she made it her own. If you were at her table, you knew
exactly what that meant.
She was the foundation of our family. A devoted wife, a strong mother, and a proud Grandma and Great-
Grandmother. She led without needing attention. She showed up, she held things together, and she made sure
we were taken care of.
She is preceded in death by our Dad, Joe Aldaz; her parents, Steve and Elizabeth “Wee Wee” Segotta; and her
brother, Jerry Segotta.
She is survived by us, her sons—Joey Aldaz, Lt Col (Ret.), USAF, and his wife Tami of Colorado Springs, and
Gary Aldaz, a retired firefighter, and his wife Tricia of Carlsbad; her grandchildren Alyssa, Steven, Sara, Lynzee,
and Garret; her great-granddaughter Kimber; and her sister, Betty June, and her husband David Huddleston of
Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Our Mom didn’t ask for attention. She built a life, a family, and traditions that will continue long after her.
That’s her legacy—and it’s one we carry forward with pride. We’ll carry her with us—in how we show up, how
we take care of family, and how we live.
At our Mom’s request, no services will be held and cremation has taken place.
