Raton Volleyball Takes Homecoming Match Over Trinidad

Homecoming in Raton was early this year and it was a fitting way for Raton to have not only their home opener but homecoming match as well where both the JV and Varsity teams took the win Saturday afternoon, September 6, in Tiger Gym.
The JV ladies took the court at 1:00 p.m. after a short ride in the Homecoming Parade down on First Street Saturday morning. In game one of the JV match Trinidad took the early lead but Raton came from behind to tie the game at 18, 20, 21 and 23 before Trinidad pulled out the win 25-23. In game two Raton fell behind but came back from an 11-5 score to tie the game at 11. The game stayed close from there with several tie scores before Raton finally toppled Trinidad 26-24. Then for the tie breaker Carissa Trujillo did what this reporter has not seen before and with the help of her team served 15 straight points for a 15-0 tie breaker win.
In the varsity match game one Trinidad took the early lead and but allowed Raton to stay close with ties scores back and forth from 13 to 24 before Raton took the win 26-24. Game two was another close one with both teams making the passes and hits over the net going back and forth with the score until late in the game when Raton pulled out in front for a 25-19 win.
Game three saw Raton pull out to a 5-1 lead the Trinidad battle back with the tie at six. Back and forth they went with a tie score at 21. Raton took the lead and pulled out the win 25-21 to take the match in three.
