Raton Lady Tiger Softball Finishes Excellent 2025 Season – Looks to the Future

Submitted to KRTN by Tiger Softball Head Coach Tommy Barksdale

The Raton Tigers softball team finished the season 16 – 12 overall and 10-2 in district play, earning the Lady Tigers a 2nd place finish in District 6AA, and then with a great run into the playoffs losing a close game to the 1 seed and district opponent, Estancia in the first round and #2 seed Loving which went on to win the 2025 NM State Softball Championship.

The team was led by three girls, who led the way into all of our success: Tess Chatterley, Jennifer Mattorano, and Haydyn Middlebrook.

Tess Chatterley led the team with a .552 batting average, 37 hits and 32 RBIs while playing first base.

Jennifer Mattorano was a huge help to the team at shortstop also helping in the lead-off batting spot and  leading the team with a .607 OBP (On Base Percentage) and 22 stolen bases.

Haydyn Middlebrook was a rock on the mound pitching for the team.  Haydyn led the team in wins and strikeouts and innings pitched.  She helped the team battle against some of the best teams in the state.

We also had 3 other girls get all honorable mention and being a big help to the team. Those girls were Paige Lemons, Brooklyn Marquez and Addison Medina.

Paige was a threat in the outfield locking down Centerfield and helping tremendously at the plate and also baserunning.

Brooklyn was a left fielder who was fantastic and led the team in homeruns also bringing some power to the plate.

Addison Medina was a huge role player for the team playing Catcher and being a wall by blocking and saving a lot of passed balls, while locking down the running game and also giving the team a chance to win every game we played.

Overall Tiger Softball had a great season with highlights including finishing 3rd in the Dexter Tournament and winning the Consolation Championship in the West Las Vegas Tournament. The Tigers look on to build the success of  2025  and are going into next year with a young talented group coming up to fill in spots and build onto the successful winning season we had.
