Leroy David (Lee) Phillips, born September 11, 1960, passed away in his sleep on May 9, 2025.
He was born in Cuba, NY. He graduated from High School in Sylvania, OH. He went to Toledo University in Toledo, Ohio, then moved to Alaska, and went to the University of Alaska, where he taught school. He returned to Toledo to attend college, and received his degree. Lee then moved to Los Alamos, NM, and became the manager of the Credit Union then on to Raton, NM, to become the manager of the Raton Credit Union. He was then hired by Sunwest Bank as a repossessor, then became a loan officer. This is where he met his wife, Erlinda. After working for Phil Cimino at Cimino Bros, Lee then went to work for the NM Health Department; which lead to his job at Alternatives to Violence as Executive Director.
Lee is preceded in death by his father, Dr. John Phillips; his mother, Alice Phillips; his sister Carol and David Lafferty, and brother John Phillips; his father-in-law Pete Portillos, mother- in-law Senovia Portillo’s, sister-in-law Dolores Martinez, brother-in-law Tom Martinez, and niece Lanelle Martinez, and his best friend Bill Rupert. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Erlinda, his son Jonathan, his brother Art and wife Gail and family, his brother Forest and wife Rhonda and family, his uncle Forest Fitzgerald, his brother-in-law Andy Portillos and wife Alzada and family.
Lee was a loving, caring husband and friend.
Funeral Service will be on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church with Pastor Cory Flanagan officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmont Cemetery.
