There are many additional relatives and friends who join in grieving Fred’s passing.

Fred was born in Springer, New Mexico on December 20, 1935. Following his graduation from Springer High School in 1954, he enlisted into the United States Marine Corps. He was an extremely proud Marine throughout his entire life. Following his Honorable Discharge and service to his country, he shortly thereafter began what was to become a life of public service. He secured employment with the New Mexico Reform School (New Mexico Boys’ School) and eventually moved to California to work in the California Department of Corrections / Adult Prisons.

While in California, he applied to become a New Mexico State Policeman. He entered the New Mexico State Police Academy and graduated with Class 25 on November 4, 1967. Fred served the New Mexico State Police (NMSP) with honor and distinction, until his retirement. In addition to his immense pride in being a United States Marine, he felt equally proud and honored to have been a New Mexico State Policeman.

Following retirement from the NMSP, he eventually ran for Magistrate Judge in the 8th Judicial District, Division II.  He was elected and eventually served as Magistrate Judge for 16 years.

He meant everything to his family. He was most devoted to our mother and was absolutely heartbroken when she passed. Due to health issues dictating he be closer to specialized medical care, he reluctantly relocated to San Antonio. He constantly wished for two things: to be with our mother again and to be in his home in Springer. While Devonna and Ernest would bring him back for summer visits, eventually the trip was too much.

Again, thanks and gratitude for the level of care that was provided in San Antonio by Devonna and Ernest, as well as Christy and Tom, will never be enough. In addition, the ladies of Methodist Hospice and Family Care were, and are, incredible in such a difficult time for our dad.

Special thanks go to the New Mexico State Police. They were at the Albuquerque International Airport awaiting his arrival from San Antonio. They provided a two-vehicle escort of his body from the airport all the way to Raton, New Mexico. That was an incredible Honor to behold and be part of, and one that he was most deserving of and throughout his many years of dedicated and honorable service, earned many times over.

Arrangements are being handled by Alderette-Pomeroy in Raton, New Mexico. Thank you to the Managing Director, Vince Alderette, for ensuring our dad is in the most caring of hands.

Services will consist of a Funeral Mass at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Springer, N.M. on May 20, 2025. The Mass will begin at 11:00a.m., immediately followed by his burial next to Juanita, where they will be side by side for eternity. There will be no public viewing. There will be a small reception following the burial. Thank you to Father Trieu, Marcy and the Altar Society.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to:  New Mexico State Police Brotherhood Association at P.O. Box 686, Dona Ana N.M. 88032.
