Andy Hazell is a public artist, automatist, photographer and film maker, but most of all he is a vagabond and the proverbial “rolling stone.” He was born in Manchester, England, and after studying many forms of art and traveling all over the world he now lives in Wales, a “green and bumpy place.”
Hazell, who was recruited by artist Rodney Wood of Gallery Vivante, is spending three weeks in Trinidad creating one of his famous “art cars” for our upcoming Artocade parade on Saturday, September 12, at noon in downtown Trinidad. This is the ninth art car he has made. This car features the shape of a F86 Saber jet being ridden by a huge skeleton. Andy says, ” I hope that what I do makes the world a little bit more interesting.”
Andy finds Trinidad “interesting, and a little weird”. He was surprised to see an “eighty year old man walking down the street with purple hair and wearing red cowboy boots” and felt a wee bit intimidated when a man walked into the hardware store wearing a holster with a huge gun in it. That’s our Trinidad, where the “wild, wild west” meets “Midnight Cowboy.” To see more of Andy’s art work go to www.andyhazell.co.uk
This is the third annual Artocade and Cardango dance-party-circus in Trinidad. This years parade features 80 entrants from all over the country. The event gets bigger and better every year with art shows, food, booths, costume parties, dancing and fun activities for all ages. Bring your family and friends for a spectacular display of art and humor on wheels. It’s amazing and free. After the parade you can get a close-up look at some of the art cars and talk to their owners. The parade is followed by the Cardango dance party at Sebastiani gym, 206 N. Animas street, from 7 pm to midnight. Tickets are only $18. Costumes are encouraged but not required. The festivities for Artocade weekend start on Friday, 9/11 thru Sunday, 9/13. For more information go to www.artocade.com or call Rodney Wood at 719-334-0087.
