PUBLIC NOTICE: 6/29/2026
As we are preparing to celebrate Independence Day, the Colfax County Fire Marshal’s
Office would like to remind residents and visitors that county and statewide fire
restrictions remain in effect due to continued elevated fire danger conditions.
Additionally, the Colfax County resolution 2026-47, prohibiting the sale and use of
fireworks remains in place to help reduce the risk of wildfire and protect our
communities, natural resources, and emergency responders.
While some areas of Colfax County have received recent rainfall and are experiencing
new grass growth and greener conditions, these precipitation events have not been
substantial enough to significantly improve overall fire conditions. Fine fuels remain
capable of carrying fire, and underlying drought conditions continue to present a
heightened wildfire risk. Although the recent moisture is welcome, we are not yet out of
fire season.
As residents and visitors celebrate the Fourth of July holiday, we encourage everyone to
keep fire safety in mind:
 Please be aware of and comply with all county and state fire restrictions.
 Avoid any activity that could unintentionally spark wildfire.
 Keep vehicles off dry grass and vegetation whenever possible.
 Properly extinguish cigarettes and other smoking materials.
 Have a water source or fire extinguisher readily available during outdoor
activities.
 Consider attending a professionally organized fireworks display where available.
To help ensure a safe holiday weekend, local fire departments and public safety personnel
will be conducting additional patrols throughout the county. Their presence is intended to
provide assistance, increase public awareness, and help keep our communities safe during
this period of elevated fire danger.
We appreciate the cooperation and vigilance of our residents and visitors. By working
together and exercising caution, we can help ensure a safe and enjoyable Independence
Day celebration for everyone while protecting our communities and the beautiful
landscapes of Colfax County.
