Linda Sue Moorhead Zuflacht McMahon 1947 – 2026
Linda Sue Moorhead Zuflacht McMahon passed away peacefully at home after a long illness May 26, 2026. Her husband of 33 years was at her side. A vivacious, witty and loving light has left home.
Linda was preceded in death by her father Richard Dean Moorhead, mother Cleo DeCamp Moorhead, sister Nancy Emert and niece Becky Cooper.
Surviving Linda are her husband of 33 years James M. McMahon, Jr., son Michael Zuflacht and his wife Lisa and grandsons Nate and Ben. Ex-husband Micheal I. Zuflacht, stepson Harold Zuflacht and his wife Marta and their children Hannah and Jake. Stepson David Zuflacht and wife Nalza. Niece Melyn Hirt, husband Robert, son Ryan. Great-niece Lilly Griffin and children.
Stepsons Dorian McMahon and wife Caitlin, Eric McMahon, and stepdaughter Heather Garner, husband Doug and their daughters Kate and Abby.
Linda Sue was born February 12, 1947 in Austin, Texas and graduated Austin High School. She had been voted “Junior Historian of Texas”. She got her BS in Journalism at the University of Colorado; MS in Urban Studies at Trinity University and her Juris Doctorate Law at St.Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas.
She practiced family law for 30 years. Linda founded Adoption Services Associates a state-licensed child placing agency where she and her staff placed thousands of children with loving families and provided ongoing emotional support for birth mothers. She was a Found Member of the American Academy of Adoption Attorneys. She was a pioneer in the then-new practice of private adoption which introduced the birth mother’s participation in the choice of adoptive parents. A radical idea at the time.
The family cabin between the Spanish Peaks was her spiritual home. You’ll be able to hear her voice in the Wahatoya River behind the cabin.
Visitation will be June 9, 2026, at Alderette – Pomeroy Funeral Home in Raton, New Mexico, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Funeral Service will be held at the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Raton, New Mexico, at 10:00 am, with Father Daniel Hank officiating. Following will be a graveside service will be at La Veta Cemetery in La Veta, Colorado.
