Roman Santiago Romero, son of Robert S. Romero (deceased) of Roy and Angela Esquibel of Springer, New Mexico, was born on July 25, 1979 in Raton, NM, and died on December 26, 2025.
He was born at the first MCMC Acute-care hospital, OB unit, since the hospital Colfax General in Springer has been turned into a nursing home. He attended elementary, middle and high school, in the Colfax County district schools making lots of friends and classmates along the way, from Springer to Angel Fire to the Navy on the U.S.S. Nicholson, Indian Ocean. He traveled to Italy, Croatia, Jerusalem where he was blessed to undergo the Jerusalem Pilgrimage and found himself back in the area and final resting place of Colfax County. As a child he looked forward to the summers with Grandfather Santos and Grandmother Faye Romero in Roy, New Mexico. He had great memories with his summer friends in Roy. Every school year after summer vacation, Roman and his older brother Robert John (B.J.) would come back with shaved heads and tanned skinned. As a father, Roman loved having time with his son, Santo Rey enjoying sports and outdoor adventures in Cimarron Canyon. The memories will carry us through. He will be missed. In his later days 2023-2024, he attended Trinidad State College and graduated from his hair-styling courses and began setting up his hair-styling profile. He had a skill on writing lyrics about his life which we can relate to and continue to listen to on You-tube and enjoy, as we will never forget and always remember his big smile.
He had worked numerous construction and roofing jobs, New Mexico Boys School-guard, H. Evacuation – fiber optic installation, Philmont Scout Ranch – dining hall attendant, from Springer to Angel Fire, Taos, Albuquerque, and local and other surrounding locations and employment. Roman leaves behind his pride and joy, son Santos Rey Romero and family, older brother Robert John Romero (B.J.), God-daughter (niece) Santana Salazar and family, his mother Angela Esquibel and families. Los Esquibel’s, Romero, y Maestas, many cousins that he loved as well as Padrinos: Uncle Anthony and Aunt Frances, Aunts, Uncles, friends, and Navy buddies he had re-connected with on Facebook. Re-connecting with his buddies was a good positive experience for Roman to the day of his passing. God rest his soul!
