In Loving Memory of Roger Clark Stocking

In loving memory of Roger Clark Stocking. Roger was born on October 24, 1946, to Clark and Dorothy Stocking in Anthon, Iowa.  Roger went home to the Lord and his waiting family members on May 28, 2026.  Roger was the fifth of nine children. He loved growing up and working on the family farm in Iowa.  In 1965 Roger graduated from Holstein Community High School and went onto Midwestern College in Denison, Iowa. Before completing his degree in mathematics, Roger voluntarily enlisted in the United States Army Signal Corps in 1968 during the Vietnam War and he was stationed at Fort Monroe, Virginia. It was during his Signal Corps training Roger learned electrical skills. After proudly completing his enlistment, Roger moved to Nevada to work in mining, becoming a Chief Electrician in a gold mine. During his time there he met and married his wife Lura Ann. Roger and Lura had two children, Jesse Stocking and Tennille Stocking.  In 1988, the family moved to Windsor, Missouri, where Roger fulfilled his dream of returning to farming, which was his passion in life.  Roger supported his farming passion by working at Central Missouri State University at the physical plant and he was a Union representative until his retirement in 2006.  Roger pursed his dream of raising cattle and harvesting crops until 2021 when he was diagnosed with liver cancer.

In 2021, Roger and Lura sold their farm in Missouri and moved to Northern New Mexico to be close to their son Jesse Stocking and grandson Jason.  Roger bravely beat liver cancer in 2022, vowing to never cut his hair after his victory. Roger greatly enjoyed his time in Northern New Mexico by spending it with his grandson and tinkering in his woodworking shop, gardening, and riding around his property on his side-by-side or his tractor, often whistling as he worked.  Roger will be remembered as someone who was always ready and willing to help anyone.  Roger’s kindness and generosity will be missed tremendously throughout the communities he lived.

Roger loved his family and was deeply proud and knowledgeable of his family’s rich genealogical history.  Roger was proceeded in death by his loving parents, Clark and Dorothy Stocking, and by two sisters, Sally Stednitz and Patty Wright.  Roger is survived by his loving wife of forty-six (46) years, Lura Stocking, his son Jesse Stocking, his daughter Tennille Coakley (Matt, WV), his two granddaughters Emma Coakley and Charlotte Coakley, his grandson Jason Stocking, sisters Karen Edwards (IA), Nancy Davis (SD), Becky Wienert (MO), brothers Vernon Stocking (MO), Greg Stocking (KY), and Bryan Stocking (IA), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, sisters-in-laws, and brothers-in-laws. Roger lived life simply and, on his terms, but he was always generous and helpful. Until we meet again in the garden, his family and friends will miss him profoundly and cherish the memories we made together. A graveside inurnment with military honors will take place at Angel Fire State Veteran Cemetery in Angel Fire, New Mexico on July 8th, 2026 at 10:00 am.
