Raton Hosts Estancia for District Makeup Double Header Tuesday

It was a Tuesday afternoon makeup double header that the Raton Lady Tigers and the Estancia Lady Bears split to determine first place in Class 2A District 6.

In game one Raton took the early lead and whittled away for a seven point lead going into the fifth inning where Estancia got a spark of life and after loading the bases Estancia hits a triple and sends three in. Another walk and a single adds two more to the scoreboard. The Lady Bears then rallied again in the seventh and tied the game at 8-8 sending it into extra innings. Two more runs and a three up three down eighth inning gave Estancia the win.

As game two got under way it looked like this game might go the same as in game one then in the bottom of the second lightning struck and Raton rounded the bases with 10 players to take 12-1 lead. The next two innings both teams scored seven runs and ended the game in the fifth on a 10 run ruling at 19-8 marking the win column for Raton.

Estancia sits at 3-1 in district play and Raton sits at 6-1. Estancia has eight more district games on their schedule while Raton only has four. While both teams lost to each other the point spread will determine the first place team in the district which will be Raton based on the point spread. Pecos has also played six district games and they are at 4-2 behind Estancia. The remainder of the district standings goes Santa Rosa at 5-3, Tucumcari at 5-3, with Logan siting 2-7 and Clayton at 1-10 on the season and surprisingly the only games Clayton have played are district opponents.
