Raton Police, New Mexico State Police and Colfax SO Deputies closed in on a vehicle that they had received a call on from Trinidad Police Department Thursday evening February 26, 2026.
New Mexico Law Enforcement received a call from the Trinidad Police Department about a white passenger vehicle that was reported to be tailgating and weaving unable to maintain its lane of travel. Trinidad officers had attempted to stop the vehicle, the female driver fled the scene of the stop and Trinidad Notified New Mexico to be on the lookout for the car.
The vehicle was later located at the Maverik Station in South Raton by NMSP. According to State Police the driver was noncompliant and attempted to flee. Officers from Raton PD and Colfax SO were able to assist in keeping the individual from leaving the station.
A standoff ensued as officers attempted to get the female to exit her vehicle. After some time officers were able to get the individual to exit the vehicle and was escorted to a waiting Raton Ambulance where she was transported to MCMC where she underwent a psychiatric evaluation.
NMSP did not advise if the individual was charged with any offense or what her status was after being taken to the hospital.
