Raton fire fighters were called to a house fire at 1214 East 5th Street Saturday night just after 8:10 p.m. for a house fire where flames and smoke could be seen.

Upon arrival fire fighters found flame and smoke coming from the rear of the structure. Fire fighters entered the house from the front door and battled the blaze from the inside as other units from both Raton Fire and Colfax Rapid Response arrived on the scene. Once water lines were established fire fighters also worked from the outside as firemen exited to refresh their SCBA tanks for another round inside the structure.

The home was occupied but no one was home at the time the blaze broke out. Fire units were on the scene until about 10:22 p.m. Saturday night. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
