After an executive session Thursday February 19, 2026, the Raton Board of Education came back into regular session and by use of the mutual consent option approved the extension of the contract with Raton Public Schools Superintendent Kristie Medina for another year at her current pay.
Board members approved the roofing contract with J3 Systems for the Tiger Gym roof at a cost of $332,387.62. The work will consist of a thermal infrared moisture scan and then determine the amount of moisture damage. Once the scan is complete the job will replace saturated insulation and then apply a base coat primer and apply a silicone fluid applied membrane coat.
In conversation with Medina, she is looking forward to continuing in her role as superintendent with a very full plate. The new school campus is going to consume a great deal of time as the architects work through changes that were made after meeting with faculty and staff. Medina is hoping to have something to bring to the public in the next month or so.
Medina also noted that lots of the faculty are involved in professional development training with a concentration toward bringing up math scores. Other challenges include finding curriculum that is of interest to many of the high school students. She noted that the dual credit courses are popular with students as well as trades training to allow students to come out of high school with a hirable trade.
Student enrollment remains constant with the high school holding at 324 with an average attendance of just above 92%. The high school is working on several summer programs for students and will have a CDL program this spring.
