House Fire in Maxwell Results in Fatality. updated 2-10-2026

Maxwell Volunteer Fire along with French Tract Volunteer Fire and Colfax County Sheriff’s office responded to a house fire in Maxwell at 409 Tinaja Avenue on January 30, 2026, about 8:50 p.m.

The first units arriving on the scene found a house with active fire conditions and immediately began fire suppression efforts. A Maxwell firefighter indicated there were still people inside and Deputy Andrew Romero heard yelling from inside the residence and entered the structure along with Maxwell Fire Department Volunteers an individual was discovered inside and quickly removed away from danger and outside where life saving measures were performed. However despite efforts Michael LeDoux was unresponsive and later pronounced deceased. Two other occupants in the residence a juvenile female and male were able to evacuate unassisted and were checked out by Springer EMS

The New Mexico State Fire Marshal’s Office was notified, and Justin Turpin of the Investigations Division responded to the scene. The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation. No further information is available currently.
