CO SPRINGS, CO – Phil Long Dealerships recently donated funds raised from its Veterans and Military Families Appreciation Month campaign to Mt. Carmel Veterans Service Center during a celebration on Saturday, December 13.
For the fourth consecutive year, Phil Long made a donation in its customers’ names to Mt. Carmel for every vehicle sold in November. This year’s initiative generated $84,300 in donations, contributing to a cumulative $335,330 raised from this campaign to assist Mt. Carmel in its mission to provide wraparound services and resources for veterans.
Since Mt. Carmel’s doors first opened nearly a decade ago, the nonprofit has assisted over 24,000 individuals through over 149,000 client visits. Headquartered in Colorado Springs, Mt. Carmel Veterans Service Center has offices in Pueblo, Trinidad and Alamosa, with plans for additional locations throughout Colorado.
Phil Long Dealerships’ 80-year legacy is deeply rooted in military service, stemming back to its founder Mr. Phil Long. A World War II Naval Aviator and combat hero, Mr. Long fought valiantly to protect the rights and freedoms our nation was founded upon. The group’s past President and CEO Jay Cimino, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, established Mt. Carmel Veterans Service Center in 2016 to champion the success of military veterans as they transitioned to civilian life. Phil Long Dealerships’ commitment to the veteran and military community has never wavered and is carried forward by its current management team, led by CEO Kevin Shaughnessy, who presented this year’s check to Mt. Carmel.
Led by Executive Director Retired Army Colonel Bob McLaughlin, Mt. Carmel Veterans Service Center provides transition and employment assistance, behavioral health and wellness, supportive services, connection to community resources, and safe event space for its clients.
“We are grateful to Phil Long Dealerships for their continued help and support of Mt. Carmel Veterans Service Center,” said McLaughlin. “Thanks to their generosity, we can continue our near 10-year legacy of serving local veterans, military members and their families.”
“Phil Long’s mission for over 80 years now has been to help connect people to the resources they need to be their best,” said Shaughnessy. “We are proud to support our military and veteran community through our partnership with Mt. Carmel.” In addition to his role at Phil Long, Shaughnessy serves on Mt. Carmel Veterans Service Center’s Board of Managers.
In an independent study by the National Institute for Social Impact, for every dollar invested in helping veterans, Mt. Carmel Veterans Service Center doubles its value in services to the veteran community. Similarly, Phil Long Dealerships’ donation will support Mt. Carmel Veterans Service Center in providing nearly $170,000 in services back to those that have sacrificed for our country.
