Its official, construction has begun on a new Maverick Convenience Store in South Raton and members from the Black Canyon Construction company, Maverick and the City of Raton were on hand to turn the dirt officially breaking ground for the new store.

Chris Burton, a manger with Maverick is hoping that the 6000 square foot store will be open in about seven months. The store will be similar to the new locations in Las Vegas, NM and Pueblo, Colorado and the new one they are building in Trinidad at exit 18.

Mayor Neil Segotta is happy to see the new construction and feels Raton is seeing an upward trend with other construction projects at the airport and in the next year or so I-25 interchange construction and work at the visitor’s center in Sugarite Canyon which is in the very early stages of planning.

The shovels turned the dirt Tuesday afternoon on the Maverick site in South Raton as construction gets underway for the new Maverick store.
