The Lady Lions finally made the trip to Raton Monday afternoon November 11, 2024 after the final match of the regular season was postponed due to a massive snow storm that left feet of snow in the area and closed roads in and out of Raton for a couple of days.
After some back and forth it was finally decided that only a varsity match would take place Monday afternoon. Game one took the floor with a tie game at five. Santa Rosa pulled ahead but Raton made the tie at 14. Both teams played strong at the net but the Lady Lions had some great blocks to pull ahead only to have the game tied at 19 and 23 and 24. Santa Rosa then scored the next two points for the win.
Game two became a Santa Rosa game after a tie at three. They pulled ahead and finished the game with a six point lead at 25-19. Game three left Lady Lion head coach Rayauna Urban shaking her head and wondering what happened as Raton took the lead and never looked back. It was 12-1 then 19-5. As the game drew to an end it was a Raton lead by 14. After the game Coach Urban made her girls run back and forth on the court.
The ruling exercise seemed to work as Santa Rosa took control and the lead and pulled out to a 19-14 score. Raton battled back however and came to within one 23-22. The Lady Lions finished off the game for the match win 25-22.
After the match the Seniors from both teams were honored.
