Gwendolyn Lee Groves-Moore
( July 28, 1938 – July 26, 2023 )
Gwendolyn Lee Groves Moore, born on July 28, 1938, at St. Lukes Hospital in Denver, CO. the only child to Garfield Frasier Groves and Loren Rae Smith Groves,
Gwen attended Raton Schools where she graduated in 1957. Soon after she married and had her only child Patricia Ann White, unfortunately, she only had Patricia four short years as she lost her battle with childhood leukemia. She later went on to work many years as a nurses aide originally at the old MCMC known as Long-Term then on to Northern Colfax Medical Center. This is where she made many friendships, she and “the girls” went on many road trips, and she hosted many backyard BBQs. She enjoyed her ceramics, crafts, and decorating the doors for the holidays at the hospital, as well as cleaning her house keeping a beautiful yard, and decorating her home for the holidays. Last but not least, her love for her animals.
She eventually had to retire as she had health issues and lost her eyesight. No matter her trials, she was also in survival mode. Unique to say the least was Gwenie. Stubborn, spoiled, caring, determined, funny, short-tempered but always strong thru it all.
Gwen passed away peacefully on July 26, 2023. Having not much family, her special friends became her family. Thank you to her neighbors, George and Carol Baca, her friend of over 50 years and hairdresser Linda Maldonado, her right-hand man for many years Josie Barela, friend since school years Gladys Peck. Thanks to the joint efforts of the entire Aragon and Romero families for all their help.
Thank you to Dr. Condor, Dr. Smith, Dr. Lopez, Clayton Rehabilitation Center staff, Raton Senior Center, and all the people who gave rides when needed. You are all appreciated more than you know.
Graveside will be held on Monday, August 14, 2023, at 10:00 am at the Fairmont Cemetery.
Per Gwens’ requests, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Raton Humane Society.
