Music On MainStreet: Matt Campbell & Trevor McSpadden
July 19, 2015 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Free ConcertRaton MainStreet presents music by Matt Campbell and Trevor McSpadden at Ripley Park on Sunday, July 19th from 4 pm until 6 pm. Music on MainStreet Concert Series is a free community event that is funded by the Whited Foundation.
Matt Campbell is an American troubadour, the likes of Woody Guthrie and Ernest Tubb. With vivid lyrical imagery and lingering melody he sings songs that raise questions, songs that give thanks, songs that stir up long forgotten and fleeting memories. Across the guitar strings, his fingers like a freight train, or a feather bed. Boots and a hat. Almost always a hat. And a smile. ~ Matt is originally from Colorado and began playing while a member of the US Coast Guard.
Trevor McSpadden’s voice doesn’t wash over you — it soaks into you, saturating right down to the heart. Honey-tinged and bourbon-mellowed, it’s a voice you want to curl up with on a lonely night; it’s a voice you want with you on the highway out of town; it’s a voice to be savored from your favorite bar stool. His songwriting goes down just as straight, and just as smooth. Tunes like “Better Off Alone” and “The Only Way” haunt you, while “Don’t Leave Yet” and “How Far Would We Fall” call you to the dance floor.
Raised in the Texas Hill Country and seasoned in the clubs of Chicago, McSpadden is a genuine country & western troubadour. He spent five years as the lead singer of Chicago’s most beloved country band, the Hoyle Brothers, before taking to the road as a solo act. Now working out of Southern California, McSpadden has teamed up with Grammy-winning producer Pete Anderson on a record slated for fall 2015. His newest songs weave together the twang of his Texas roots and the grit of Chicago with California’s honky-tonk heritage.
