Suminagashi is a process in which Sumi ink is floated on the surface of plain water, then transferred to a sheet of paper. Suminagashi (sue-me-NAH-gah-she) literally means “floating ink” and is an ancient form of Japanese marbling dating back over 800 years. Suminagashi – the ancient art of Japanese marbling. Paper marbling is a method of aqueous surface design, which can produce patterns similar to smooth marble or other kinds of stone.
