Colorado Springs, Colorado – The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference released the 2024 All-Academic Football teams and New Mexico Highlands had a total of six student-athletes qualify for the team with one, Cayden Walton, being named to the first team.
To be eligible for the first team honors, which were selected by a vote of the conference’s sports information directors based on a combination of academic and athletic accomplishments, student-athletes must have a 3.50 or higher GPA, have completed a full academic year at the nomination institution and used a season of eligibility. Honor Roll selections must have a 3.30 or higher GPA.
Sophomore running back Cayden Walton was named to the First Team with a 3.90 grade point average while studying Computer Science. The Raton, New Mexico, native played in all 11 games for the Cowboys this fall and compiled 114 receiving yards and five touchdowns. He had 195 rushing yards on 17 carries.
Walton becomes the first NMHU Football player to earn First Team Academic All-RMAC honors since former Cowboy Adrien Vasquez after the 2021 season.
Creed Chavez, Orion Nauls, Teneil Nichols, Malik Norman, and Evan Richardson were all named to the 2024 RMAC Academic Honor Roll.
“I am very proud of these guys and their accomplishments in the classroom and on the football field,” said NMHU Head Coach Kurt Taufa’asau. “We are working hard to change the culture of the program here and these are the types of players we want in the program.”
