An alert store clerk at a Raton Truck Stop alerted Raton Police of a suspicious subject that had been asking customers for help removing hand cuffs Monday morning.
Raton Police responded to the area and were unable to find the subject but later made contact with the individual near Super Save where he was taken into custody without incident. The vehicle that the individual had stolen in Colorado was later located at the Alta Convince Store on East 8th in Raton. That vehicle is being processed by Raton Police.
The escapee had been taken to the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center in La Junta by Bent County Sheriff’s Deputies for a medical issue where he allegedly overpowered a deputy and security officer late on April 11 according to news reports in Colorado.
Caillier was an inmate being held at the Bent County Jail after being arrested in February on charges of First Degree burglary with assault, Third Degree assault, and menacing and armed with a deadly weapon.
Caillier is awaiting extradition back to Colorado at the Vigil Maldonado Detention Center in Raton.
Your story about the escapee out of Colorado is not entirely accurate. He was at the truck stop that day asking if someone could help him pick the lock then disappeared. I saw the bolo on facebook. I asked the police about it but they didn’t know anything about it. It was about 3am or so when he came in the store on my shift. I was the employee that called the p.d. I called on Friday but nothing was done. Then Sunday I flagged an officer down that was driving thru the parking lot to report a light in the field behind the store, which was a tent with a person inside, but again nothing but followed up on until Monday.The state police came and investigated that individual because they thought it might be the wanted person. It wasn’t, but the wanted individual was spotted a short time later by my boss, the owner of the truck stop who then called the store and reported to an officer that was still on scene that he had spotted the wanted individual walking in front of the AutoZone and by the time the police arrived he was in front of the Super Save. Doesn’t matter but I thought I would give you the facts.
