Saturday was a great day for baseball and softball as Raton hosted teams from West Las Vegas for double headers on both fields, but unfortunately for Raton it would be a tough day as both the Tigers and Lady Tigers fell to the Dons and Lady Dons in all four games.

In game one of the girls double header West Las Vegas Malie Satete an 8th grader threw the heat making it tough for the Lady Tigers to make contact with the fast moving ball. Satete finished the game with 18 strikeouts and only one walk for the Lady Dons. Simply put she was the main reason game one was a shut out for the Lady Tigers. Haydyn Middlebrook went the distance for Raton in game one with five strikeouts and five walks.

In game two Raton faired better against Ilyanna Gettler and Denise Montoya as Raton managed to get seven hits off of Gettler who also walked eight batters and was credited with the win. Montoya came in and finished off the game West. Middlebrook started game two for Raton with Gianna Marez coming in early and Mariah Gonzales finishing off the last inning for Raton.

Over at Gabrielle Field the boys simply couldn’t put things together with Raton having problems on the mound. in game one Raton went through four pitchers with only Chris Ortega going 2.1 innings while Santiago Castillo did .2 finishing off Ortega’s second inning.  Jacob Mattorano and Chase Middlebrook both pitched an inning for Raton and each had a single strikeout.  In game two GB Oliver started on the mound and Azden Romero finished the game with four strikeouts and four walks.

For West Javier Montoya pitched 3.2 innings and had three strikeouts with three walks while Cruzito Gallegos finished the game. In game two Cesar Montoya started on the mound for West goin four innings with five walks and six strikeouts. Mateo Duran finished the game with one strikeout and pitching one inning.
