Public Service Announcement For The City Of Trinidad, Co Error In Rate Calculations For Recent Utility Increases.

For Immediate Release: April 14, 2023 – Error in rate calculations for
recent utility increases.
The City of Trinidad would like to inform the public about a recent issue we’ve encountered regarding
our new rate structure. We have discovered miscalculations in the billing amounts for some
customers, particularly affecting our commercial clients.
Our initial aim was to implement a rate for water and sewer services that would be moderately higher
than the previous rates. However, during the transition to a separate base rate and usage fee, certain
errors were made by our contractor that went unnoticed until the new rates were implemented in our
billing system. Regrettably, the first batch of bills with incorrect amounts has already been sent to
some customers. We apologize for this inconvenience and are committed to working closely with each
affected customer to resolve the issue. We will also keep the public informed about our progress in
correcting these errors.
To mitigate further impact on our customers, we will request the Council to adopt an emergency
ordinance during the upcoming Tuesday meeting. This will provide us with the necessary time to
address the situation and correct the rate structure.
We want to assure our customers that we are taking the necessary steps to ensure the issue is resolved
promptly. Our priority is to serve our community in the best possible manner.
